Road to Gairezi

Now, the road to Gairezi was a Proper African Road. The red dirt track curled for about 16km from Mpunguzungu to the Gairezi River, going through villages, scrub and jungle.

Because of the rain there were lots of puddles and some proper, none-of-your-namby-pamby-Irish-style potholes. It was bumpa-bumpa-bumpa-bumpy.

En route, we operated what is known in Zim as an emergency taxi – see the post Hints to Taxi Riders in Cape Town for cross reference.

We saw bananarillas (google fails to turn up a mention of bananarillas, so think Robbie was pulling my leg),

Granadilla (wild passionfruit),

Lots of children hoping for sweets.

These children were disappointed I had no sweets, but we compromised by my taking their picture and showing them.

  1. They do exist! Found this on Google Banana Passion Fruit, Caruba, Banana Poka, Bananadilla Passiflora mollissima
in Mexico the fruits of this vine are considered an excellent treatment for high blood pressure aside from their value as a delicious base for a fruit drink.
